Spain: Zuheros – Day 8

Another sunny day with nice roses near our room door.

After breakfast, we met for route review.

Our options today were to take the bike path or to ride a more hilly route to Luque. My knee opts for the bike path and I am on my own.

Olive grooves again abound. A protected species in the area is the Peregrine Falcon.

When the bike path and the hilly route joined up, I met up with the rest of the group.

We also met the van for a snack break.

Near Luque we stopped at a cortijo – rural dwelling – for a picnic lunch. These lunch stops always seem to be at the top of a steep driveway. So steep in fact that I had trouble walking my bike up.

Heading back towards the hotel in the afternoon, we pass by one of the “white” villages so named because the majority of buildings are made of white-washed limestone.

This one is Zuheros and is considered one of the most beautiful in Spain.

It’s known for its cheese, olive oil, and castle.

A stop here provides for a photo op with Tom, Jerry, Marylou, and Ross.

We also get to see goats.

I continue to bounce along the bike path back to the hotel for a total of about 25 miles by day’s end. I think I met only one other rider on the path.

Dinner was a group affair at the hotel. Had an option of pig cheeks again which I declined.
