Our day started off with some excitement as four of our bicycles were stolen overnight. One of these bicycles belonged to Ross. The bicycle actually belonged to VBT but the pedals and saddle belonged to Ross. The ride was short today because we had a long afternoon shuttle and we were changing hotels which meant suitcases had to be packed and outside our room door by 8 am. I took some photos as riders departed the hotel.
Ross was late in leaving because he had to get a different bicycle fitted and then followed Bodhi out of town to catch up with the others.
The 23-mile ride was beautiful, mainly along the Øre Sound and on the Kattegattleden, Sweden’s oldest bike path.
The total path is 230 miles and divided into eight sections. Our ride was on the first section. Another windmill was sighted along the way.
The only downer was the wind which was strong and gusty. Based on my “tender” stomach issues from yesterday, I chose to stay on the bus and met up with the group at lunch which was at a lovely country restaurant.
The flowers were abundant.
And the restaurant had its own herb garden.
Menu for the day.
This was our actual lunch spot.
Lunch for me was soup and quiche.
After lunch we boarded the bus for a four-hour trip to Vadstena with a short stop at a “candy cane” shop along the way.
The guys got their traditional Magnum bars.
Much of our route was along Lake Vattern, Europe’s 6th largest lake at nearly 80 miles long.
Our new home for two nights was at Saint Bridget’s Monastery. The abbey and the order of the Bridgettine monks and nuns was founded in 1346 by Saint Bridget. She died in Rome in 1373.

This was our room.
Dinner was at the monastery restaurant.
Looking forward to getting back on my bicycle tomorrow.
