Maryland: Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay – Day 3

Tuesday: Our ride today is just over 27 miles. We start from the hotel in Easton around 9 am and head east. Our ride yesterday was south and west. This area is mostly farm land where corn and bean fields abound. Several had been harvested or were in the process today which greatly aggravated my allergies.

We were riding with GPS directions from our phone again and this makes the ride so much easier and smoother than having to stop and check written directions. Here, I am riding across the bridge over Mirror Lake.

Ross stopped at Mirror Lake to take a photo of the fall foliage.

After about eight miles, we arrive at the Choptank River and have a snack break.

We look at the river and talk to a fisherman who is fishing for blue catfish. The Choptank is 73 miles long and the largest on Maryland’s eastern shore. Captain John Smith explored it in 1608.

Part of our group at the river.

We also look at Debby’s e-bike and try to figure out how much it weighs.

Then it’s on toward the Triple Creek Winery, our lunch spot. Our ride is mostly on quiet county roads with black-top surfaces. We had several stops along the route today, first because my audio book kept turning on and off and I couldn’t keep it shut off. I don’t mind a little music when riding but not a book. Then Ross’ bicycle seat kept sliding down because a bolt had been stripped and had to eventually be replaced. And somehow a thorn got inside his sock and was sticking him in the foot. Minor issues, but time consuming.

Eventually we arrive at the winery.

We check out these wine bottles and their cute labels.

Then we get to sample.

Our guides provide us with a picnic lunch.

Our lunch is completed with Baltimore Burgers, a dessert that seems to be a shortbread cookie topped with chocolate fudge. Yum.

Nice weather and we eat outside.

The afternoon ride is another seven miles back to Easton. I decided to van back to the hotel but barely beat Ross back. We all arrive back at the hotel around 2:30 and have ample time to shop and look around town. Then we regroup for a scheduled dinner tonight at Out of the Fire.

We had previously selected our dinner choices – my main course was a delicious pork chop – and my meal started with this colorful charred broccoli salad. Got my veggies for sure today.

Tomorrow is a moving day – we switch locations – so tonight is a packing night. Suitcases have to be outside our rooms by 8:15 am. Another good bicycling day.
